I never used to subscribe to the concept of changing my make up for different seasons. I would wear the same look month in, month out, and rarely differentiate between products. Blogging and becoming a make up collector has meant that my make up collection is now so vast that I am constantly trying out new looks and products. And with that, I’ve found that I switch things up between seasons more often.
This summer, I’ve been favouring a pink-focused make up look over anything else. I know, I know. Pinks and corals for summer? How groundbreaking. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. I just like a super feminine pink look.
I find my summer make up inspiration wavering between super ’90s Baby Spice-inspired icy pink shades to a warmer, more coral look that would be better suited to a beach on the French riviera.
The main product behind my focus on pink is the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette. Now, this palette isn’t for everyone. Pink eyeshadow can make some look like they have an unfortunate case of pink eye. I don’t mind that look some days. It’s all a little fun in the name of make up, after all. I love the colours in this palette. Although I will say that the quality of the eyeshadows is not to Urban Decay’s usual fantastic standard – sadly it does feel like they let quality control drop on this palette.
On my lips, lately I’ve been reaching for my staple coral faves: a sadly discontinued shade by Rimmel called ‘Tell No One’, MAC’s classic summer staple ‘Lady Danger’, and my favourite lipstick for when I need to feel like a boss queen, NARS ‘Red Square’.
While I prefer to keep my lips super matte at all times, I have been leaning heavily towards a glowing blush. For days when your highlighter just isn’t enough, a blush with a golden sheen to it packs an extra punch. I love Milani’s blushes, especially ‘Luminoso’. An easier alternative if you can’t get your hands on Milani though are the Max Factor creme puff blushes. Another good option is a cream blush, to keep your skin looking healthy and dewy. I love NYX’s cream blushes, which are now available to purchase in Boots.
